GMIS International is a professional IT association of worldwide government IT leaders dedicated to providing best practice solutions for initiatives by providing its members with enhanced professional development, training, conferences, awards and networking while offering leadership though advocacy, research and shared experiences. GMIS International’s primary mission is to leverage the collective knowledge of our members.
Membership in GMIS is open to public sector agencies at any level of government (federal, state, county, city, etc.) including schools (K-12, community college and university) and special districts. Corporate memberships are also available.
Below are the US-based chapters. If you work in one of these states, are in IT, and are working for a municipality, please consider joining the great organization!
The ITML Institute certification and certificate programs listed below are ideal for municipal IT soon-to-be, new, and seasoned IT managers and directors!
All our classes include access to our IT Leadership Growth Library, that contains a special section designed specifically for municipal IT professionals.
IT Leadership Research

Our research is on the identification and growth of high potential future IT leaders.
This research can be used in two ways; by CIOs to identify and nurture future IT leaders, and by IT professionals of all levels, to help them chart the course to their desired leadership destination.
College transfer credit is now available for our ITMLP and ITMLE certification programs!
The American Council on Education (ACE), the major coordinating body for the nation’s higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.
ACE has stated that 3 college transfer credits at the Upper-Division Baccalaureate level (junior or senior level class) can be provided to our ITMLP or ITMLE students who attend our 3-day class and successfully pass our certification exam.
Please note, that the decision to accept specific credit recommendations is up to each college or university.
