Accountability: The leadership expectation that individuals and teams clearly own commitments, decisions, outcomes, and follow-through

Adaptive Leadership:  The ability to guide people through uncertainty, complexity, and change by adjusting approaches as conditions evolve

Agile Leadership: The practice of leading teams in a flexible, iterative way that encourages collaboration, rapid feedback, continuous improvement, and frequent delivery of business value

Architecture Review: A structured evaluation of a system’s design, including scalability, security, integration, reliability, and alignment with business goals

AIOps: The use of artificial intelligence and analytics to improve IT operations by detecting patterns, reducing alert noise, identifying root causes, and automating operational responses

Budget Stewardship: The disciplined management of IT spending to ensure resources are used responsibly, transparently, and in support of business priorities

Business Alignment: The discipline of ensuring IT priorities, investments, services, and projects directly support organizational strategy and measurable business outcomes

Business Relationship Management: The practice of building productive partnerships between IT and business leaders to understand needs, shape demand, and improve value delivery

Build vs. Buy: A decision framework used to determine whether an organization should develop a technology capability internally or purchase it from a vendor

Change Management: The structured process of planning, approving, communicating, implementing, and reviewing changes to IT systems while minimizing risk and disruption

Cloud Strategy: A leadership plan for using cloud services to improve scalability, agility, resilience, cost management, innovation, and security

CI/CD Pipeline: An automated workflow for building, testing, and deploying software or infrastructure changes quickly and reliably

Coaching: A leadership approach that helps employees improve performance, judgment, confidence, and career growth through guidance, feedback, and development conversations

Communication Cadence: The planned rhythm of updates, meetings, reporting, and stakeholder communication used to maintain alignment and transparency

Conflict Resolution: The process of addressing disagreement constructively so that teams can restore trust, make decisions, and continue working effectively

Cybersecurity Governance: The leadership framework of policies, roles, controls, reporting, and accountability used to manage cybersecurity risk across the organization

Decision Rights: The agreed authority for who can make specific decisions, approve actions, resolve tradeoffs, and escalate unresolved issues

Delegation: The leadership practice of assigning responsibility and authority to others while providing the context, support, and accountability needed for success

DevOps: A set of practices and cultural principles that improves collaboration between development and operations teams to deliver software faster, safer, and more reliably

Digital Transformation: The strategic use of digital technologies to redesign business processes, operating models, customer experiences, and value delivery

Data Governance: The policies, standards, roles, and processes that ensure data is accurate, secure, accessible, compliant, and usable for decision-making

Employee Engagement: The degree to which IT staff feel committed, motivated, connected, and willing to contribute discretionary effort to team and organizational success

Enterprise Architecture: The discipline of designing and guiding the organization’s technology, data, application, and infrastructure landscape to support business strategy

Executive Communication: The ability to present technology issues, risks, options, and recommendations in language that senior leaders can quickly understand and act upon

Executive Sponsorship: Active support from senior leaders who provide authority, funding, visibility, and organizational alignment for major technology initiatives

FinOps: A management practice that brings finance, IT, and business teams together to optimize cloud spending while maintaining performance and business agility

Governance Model: A defined structure of decision rights, policies, controls, roles, and escalation paths used to guide technology decisions and accountability

Incident Management: The process of restoring normal service operations as quickly as possible after an outage, degradation, security event, or operational disruption

Influence Without Authority: The ability to gain support, cooperation, and commitment from people who do not formally report to the leader

IT Culture: The shared behaviors, values, norms, and expectations that shape how IT teams collaborate, serve users, handle risk, and respond to change

IT Operating Model: The structure that defines how IT teams, processes, governance, tools, and partnerships work together to deliver services and business outcomes

IT Portfolio Management: The practice of managing technology investments, projects, applications, and services as a portfolio to balance risk, cost, value, and strategic fit

Key Risk Indicator (KRI): A metric used to signal increasing risk exposure before it becomes a major issue, allowing leaders to take preventive action

Key Performance Indicator (KPI): A measurable value used to assess progress toward an operational, strategic, service, or business objective

Leadership Presence: The combination of credibility, confidence, composure, clarity, and professionalism that helps a leader earn trust and influence outcomes

Learning Organization: An organization that deliberately captures lessons, shares knowledge, improves practices, and adapts through continuous learning

M

Mentoring: A developmental relationship in which an experienced professional helps another person build judgment, perspective, skills, and career direction

Mission Clarity: A shared understanding of why the IT organization exists, whom it serves, what outcomes matter, and how success will be measured

MLOps: The practices used to deploy, monitor, govern, and maintain machine learning models in production environments reliably and responsibly

Observability: The ability to understand a system’s internal condition by analyzing signals such as logs, metrics, traces, events, and user experience data

Organizational Agility: The ability of an IT organization to respond quickly and effectively to changing business priorities, market conditions, technologies, and risks

Outcome Orientation: A management mindset that focuses on measurable business results and user value rather than activity volume or task completion alone

Performance Management: The ongoing process of setting expectations, measuring progress, providing feedback, recognizing achievement, and addressing gaps in employee performance

Platform Engineering: The discipline of building internal developer platforms, shared services, reusable tools, and standards that improve developer productivity and operational consistency

Priority Management: The leadership discipline of deciding which work matters most, allocating resources accordingly, and helping teams avoid distraction and overload

Product-Oriented IT: An IT operating approach that organizes teams around long-lived products or services rather than short-term projects, improving ownership and customer focus

RACI Matrix: A responsibility assignment tool that clarifies who is Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed for activities, decisions, or deliverables

Risk Management: The process of identifying, assessing, prioritizing, mitigating, monitoring, and communicating risks that could affect technology services or business outcomes

Servant Leadership: A leadership style focused on enabling others to succeed by removing obstacles, developing people, listening actively, and building trust

Service Management: The set of practices used to design, deliver, support, and improve IT services so they meet business and user needs

Shadow IT: Technology systems, applications, tools, or services adopted by business users without formal IT approval, visibility, or governance

Stakeholder Management: The leadership practice of identifying, engaging, influencing, and communicating with people or groups affected by technology decisions and outcomes

Succession Planning: The process of identifying and developing future leaders so the organization can maintain continuity when key roles change

Talent Development: The intentional growth of employee skills, knowledge, leadership ability, and career readiness through training, experience, coaching, and mentoring

Team Norms: The shared expectations for how a team communicates, collaborates, makes decisions, handles conflict, and supports one another

Technical Debt: The future cost created when technology solutions are delivered quickly using design, code, process, or architecture shortcuts that must later be corrected

Technology Roadmap: A time-based plan that shows how technology capabilities, investments, platforms, and initiatives will evolve to support business strategy

Vendor Management: The process of selecting, contracting, monitoring, governing, and optimizing relationships with technology vendors and service providers
